Trichia contorta

Mature sporocarps

Trichia contorta is one of several sessile species of Trichia which look alike and can only be positively identified by an examination of the capillitium and spores. Others include T. persimilis, T. fimicola, T. lutscens, T. scabra and T. varia. All of these species grow on dead wood and are seen mainly in late spring and the autumn.
