Stemonitis flavogenita

Sporocarps just starting to develop

Stemonitis favogenita is a fairly common species in the UK but has only been positively identified once in Clyne Wood. It is very similar in appearance to Stemonitis fusca and can only be reliably seperated microscopically. The most distinctive difference in the field is the pale yellow colour of the plasmodium and young sporocarps - Most other species of Stemonitis have a white plasmodium.
