Metatrichia floriformis

Mature sporocarps

Once rare, Metatrichia floriformis is now a very common species. It preferes to grow on well rotted wood and can occur in large colonies up to half a meter across. The dark sporocarp open in a petaloid fashion to release the bright orange-red spores.
