Lycogala terrestre

Mature sporocarps

Lycogala terrestre is the species of myxomycete that you are most likely to encounter in Clyne Wood, where it is very common. It is easily spotted because of its relatively large size (up to 20mm across)and the bright orange or pink colour of the young sporocarps. Lycogala terrestre can be found from April to November and is particularly abundant in early summer. See the notes on the similar Lycogala epidendrum.
