Lycogala terrestre

Mature aethalia

Lycogala terrestre is one of the species of myxomycete that you are most likely to encounter in Clyne Wood, where it is very common. It is easily spotted because of its relatively large size (up to 16mm across)and the bright orange or pink colour of the young aethalia. Lycogala terrestre can be found from April to November and is particularly abundant in early summer. See the notes on the similar Lycogala epidendrum.
