Cribraria violacea

Mature sporocarps

Although not a common species in the rest of the UK, Cribraria violacea is particularly abundant in Clyne Wood. This tiny species (less than 1mm tall) is difficult to find in the field, but grows readily in moist chamber culture of oak bark. Around 60% of the samples collected have yeilded Cribraria violacea. Considering that each sample is only a few centimeters square - the oak trees of Clyne wood must be teeming with Cribraria violacea.
